Buying a Wedding Dress in Vietnam: What 270 Gowns Actually Cost
Real prices from 270 gowns on the rail in Ho Chi Minh City, plus the questions brides ask online and nobody answers: customs, duty, sizing and how to tell a real shop from a fake one.
In February a bride posted on Reddit. She wanted a wedding dress from Vietnam, and she wanted to know one thing: what would customs and import fees add to the price. She wrote that she was worried they would bump up the cost too significantly.
She got one reply. It said: I've been considering the same and would also love to know more.
That is the whole problem with buying a wedding dress in Vietnam from abroad. The prices are public enough. What nobody writes down is everything that happens after you pay.
We have been making and selling wedding dresses at 106-108 Đường 3 Tháng 2 in Ho Chi Minh City — Saigon, if you grew up calling it that — since 1997. This article gives you the real price of every one of the 270 wedding dresses on our rail today, and then answers the questions we keep seeing go unanswered on Reddit — about duty, sizing, deposits, and how to tell whether a shop is real.

1. What a wedding dress costs in Vietnam
Here is every wedding dress currently on our rail in Ho Chi Minh City, sorted by price. Not a price range. Individual dresses you could walk in and touch today, each with its price printed on it.

The cheapest is $65. The most expensive is $1,535. Most brides land between $192 and $462 — that is where 137 of the 270 gowns sit.
For comparison, brides on the wedding forums report paying between $1,800 and $4,000 for a comparable new gown at a salon in the United States, and most of that gap is not fabric. It is the showroom, the commission structure, and the two or three companies that each took a margin before the dress reached that rail.
2. Will you be quoted a higher price because you are foreign
This is the part of the wedding dress conversation Vietnamese bridal shops usually avoid, so we will not.
On the forums, one bride wrote that she was quoted seventeen hundred dollars, and then, in the same breath, fifteen hundred dollars for her. Another compared notes and found she had been quoted thirteen hundred dollars in Saigon for a gown a different bride bought in Da Nang for five hundred and fifty. Brides now tell each other, in writing, to try to haggle.
We will not defend that. We will only tell you what we do instead: every price on our site is published before you speak to anyone, and nobody here is authorised to quote you a different number because you are foreign, because you asked twice, or because it is a quiet week. There is nothing to haggle down from, because nothing was marked up to begin with.
One more thing brides have taught each other and shops rarely admit: hotels, drivers and guides in Vietnam are commonly paid a commission of thirty to thirty-five per cent for walking you through a door. We do not pay commission to anyone. If someone brings you here, they did it because they liked the dresses.
3. Why wedding dress prices in one shop range from $65 to $1,535
A twenty-fold spread in wedding dress prices inside one shop looks strange until you know what it is made of.
The gowns at the bottom of the range are not new. They have been worn a few times, cleaned, inspected and repriced to match. The gowns at the top are new, and almost all of the handwork lives there: layered underskirts, hand-set beading, the lace that costs more per metre than the whole of a simple column dress.
A dress that has been worn is not a damaged dress. A bride wears a gown for one day; the gown lasts a great deal longer than that. The only thing you are owed is being told which one you are looking at. Ask, at any shop, how many times a gown has been worn — and watch whether you get a straight answer.
4. Wedding dress sizing in Vietnam: the honest limits
This is where we will disappoint some of you, and we would rather do it now than after you have booked a flight.
Our ready-to-wear gowns are cut for Asian frames. One American bride who wears a size small at home described Vietnamese stock as feeling like an extra-extra-small on her, and said sleeves would not go over her upper arms. That is a real account and it is a fair warning.
What this means in practice: of the 270 gowns on our rail, 265 are cut on Asian sizing and 5 are made as plus size. Every gown is altered to your measurements before it ships, but alteration has limits — fabric lets out a few centimetres, it does not change a frame.
So we ask for your measurements before you fall in love with anything. We check them against the rail and tell you which gowns can be made to fit you and which cannot. If nothing in stock works, we will say so and offer to make one to your measurements instead, rather than sell you a dress that will fight you all day.
Corset backs with lacing let out the most, so if you are between sizes, ask for those first — at any shop, not only this one.
5. Buying a wedding dress in Vietnam without flying here
Most brides who order a wedding dress from Asia are buying from photographs: a flat image, a size chart, and a long wait. That is the part that goes wrong.
We do it differently, and the difference is small but it changes everything. You book a video call, and a member of our shop staff puts the gown on and walks in it, in daylight, from every side. Not a hired model who has been lit and posed. A woman who works here, with a real body, whose height and dress size we will tell you so you can picture the gown on yours.
You ask to see the back. You ask what the lace sounds like when she moves. You ask us to hold it against a sheet of white paper so you can judge whether ivory is really ivory on your screen. It is the same conversation you would have standing in the shop.
Nothing is paid before that call, and the call commits you to nothing.
One warning that comes from the brides, not from us: do not measure yourself alone. It is the single most common cause of a dress that does not fit. You move, the tape shifts, and you hold a breath you will not be holding on the day. Have someone else measure you, and send us a photograph of where the tape is sitting if you are unsure.
6. Shipping, customs and import duty — the question nobody answers
Back to the bride from the first paragraph, and the one wedding dress question in Vietnam that nobody online has answered.
We went looking for the answer she was asking for, across every forum we could read. Here is the entire body of real data we found: one bride reported ten dollars of duty on a two-hundred-and-ninety-nine dollar order of two dresses shipped to the United States, and one person reported a parcel reaching Europe from Vietnam in eleven days. That is it. Six brides asked. Two answered with anything concrete.
So here is what we can tell you honestly, and what we cannot.
We ship worldwide by DHL with tracking, and the shipping is free. Door to door it is usually three to seven days. We pack the gown in a garment bag inside a box, and we send you the tracking number the day it leaves.
What we cannot do is pay or predict your country's import duty. Rates change, thresholds change, and in the last two years they have changed more than usual. Any shop that gives you a confident number for your country is guessing on your behalf. Ask your own customs authority for the rate on apparel, and budget for it.
And one piece of advice we would give you even if you bought elsewhere: do not have a dress arriving the week of your wedding. One bride described her dress sitting in a warehouse in Kentucky for almost a month while she called and emailed the courier every day for three weeks. It arrived three weeks before the wedding and it fitted perfectly, and she still called it an emotional three weeks. Build a buffer. A month is not too much.
Some brides solve this differently: they order remotely, fly in for a fitting, and hand carry the dress home. If you are coming to Vietnam anyway, that is the lowest-risk version of this, and we are glad to work that way.
7. How to tell whether a bridal shop in Vietnam is real
The most common fear about buying a wedding dress in Vietnam is not price. It is being scammed. Brides write that they are scared of being scammed, that they are trying to see if a shop is legit, and the word that comes up again and again is nervous.
They have worked out their own checks, and they are good ones. We would like you to run them on us.
Reverse image search the photographs. One bride did exactly this and found a shop's entire portfolio was, in her words, all over the internet. Right-click any photograph on this site and search it. Every image here is our own gown, photographed in our own studio, and the codes under them match the dresses on our rail.
Get it in writing before any money moves. Brides routinely wire five hundred to a thousand dollars on the strength of a chat thread, with no contract, and the ones who had a written agreement bring it up afterwards as the reason they felt safe. You will get written confirmation of what you ordered, the price, and the ship date, before you pay anything.
Watch for answers written by a machine. One bride worked out that a shop was replying with ChatGPT because it asked about her emotional wellbeing instead of explaining the fabric. If you ask us what a fabric weighs or how many layers are in an underskirt, you will get a number.
And be careful of anyone offering to be your personal shopper. There are people in Vietnam charging brides three hundred to four hundred and fifty dollars as a fee on a thousand-dollar dress, purely so that somebody who speaks your language stands between you and the shop. That is a thirty to forty-five per cent premium on trust alone. You do not need one for us.
8. Deposits, and what happens if the wedding dress does not fit
Brides on the forums have arrived at two rules of self-defence, and both are sensible: keep the deposit at thirty per cent or less, and stay in the country until the dress fits. They arrived at those rules because every failure story breaks at the same point — the money is paid and the bride has left Vietnam.
We will be straight with you: our deposit is fifty per cent, which is higher than those brides recommend. So here is what we put on the other side of it.
Before the balance is due, we send you video of the finished gown on a person, so you can see exactly what is about to be boxed. If you are not happy with what you see, you say so then — not after it has crossed an ocean. That video is the point at which a transaction that would otherwise be irreversible becomes reversible, and it is the only honest answer to a fifty per cent deposit.
If the gown does not match the measurements we confirmed, we remake or repair it at our cost. If it fits as measured but you want the shape changed, we will contribute to a local alteration rather than have you post a dress around the world twice.
What we cannot promise: that a gown cut for an 86cm bust will fit a 106cm one, that your customs will be quick, or that ivory will look on your screen exactly as it looks in the room. Ask us to hold it against white paper on the call and judge for yourself.

Compare that with a made-to-order gown, from us or from anyone: eight to twelve weeks in the workroom, then shipping on top. If your wedding is four months away, either route works. If it is six weeks away, only one does.

11. The wedding dress question still waiting for an answer
We never found out what that bride on Reddit paid in customs. Her thread still has one reply on it, and the reply is another bride saying she would also love to know.
We cannot answer it for her, because the answer depends on her country and not on us. What we can do is stop pretending the question is not there — publish every price, say plainly which gowns will not fit which bodies, show you the dress on a person before you pay the balance, and tell you to budget for a duty bill we do not control.
